Winter Break 2023 – apply for a nationally-competitive opportunity. Examples inlcude but are not limited to – Fulbright UK Summer Institutes, Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), a variety of Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships/Programs (SURF/SURP) and government and non-profit internship programs as well as opportunities that have deadlines in spring 2023.
Description of course
Students in this course will learn about and prepare materials for nationally-competitive opportunities for summer 2023 (e.g. summer research programs and institutes, internships) or for awards with spring 2023 deadlines (a Udall scholarship or Beinecke scholarship). Students in the course will also learn about examples of leadership; basic tenets of research; the importance of good writing and editing; and how work and workplaces have changed. By the end of the course, students will have drafted a statement for one of the opportunities they have identified. The course will also include a historical survey and analysis of the awards and the respective funding agencies.
SPEA V 260 is a 1 credit web-based course that will be conducted asynchronously and the course number is 35836. Assignments will be due later in the semester, according to the deadlines set by the funding agencies.
