Mitchell Scholarship

Mitchell Scholarship

Mitchell Scholarship recipients receive support for one academic year of postgraduate study at institutions of higher learning in Ireland, including the seven universities in the Republic of Ireland and the two universities in Northern Ireland. Students must have a record of intellectual distinction, leadership, and extracurricular activity, as well as personal characteristics of honesty, integrity, fairness, and unselfish service to others that indicate a potential for leadership and contribution to society.

Applicants must be in their senior year, must have completed an undergraduate degree no later than the summer before they enter an Irish university and be 18 years of age or older, but not yet 30, on September 29 of the year of application (those who turn 30 on September 30 are not eligible). More information at the Mitchell website.

Scholarships for graduate study

To compete for a Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell or Churchill Scholarship, candidates must meet eligibility requirements set by the scholarship programs. All require that an applicant be a U.S. citizen (See page 10 of the Rhodes brochure for eligibility of other nationalities). Participation in the competitions at the national level requires formal nomination by an applicant's university.
